Web-slinging, bad guy beating, and all the high flying action you can handle. that is what we will be covering this week as we review the one and only, Spider-Man.

Spider-Man, Spider-Man does whatever a spider can

This movie tells the story of nerd extraordinair, Peter Parker, as he goes from quite nerd to wise cracking superhero. Peter is bitten by a genetically enhanced spider and gains all the best attributes of spiders, such as: webs, wall sticking, a sixth sense of danger (spider-sense), and strength disproportional to his body.  Unfortunately he is not the only one touched by science, as his best friends dad is turned into the supervillian Green Goblin after an experiment goes horribly wrong.  The Green Goblin tries to not only destroy the city but corrupt the web-slinging wall-crawler. now peter must stop  Goblin,  save the city,  balance his real life,  and keep on the right side of  justice.

Go ahead and try and say "no" to him, go ahead

Sexual content 3/10: There is little to no sexual things about this movie.  There is one particular upside-down kiss in the rain where Mary Jane, the love interest, doesn’t wear right the right shirt for the occasion. The Goblin also makes an innuendo comment before he thinks he’s about to kill Spider-man.

Violent Content 6/10: once again this is a superhero movie so they do fight and sometimes quite viscously.

Language content 2/10: There is little to no swearing so its pretty clean, aside from a few “Hells” here and there thrown around.

Christian Content 6/10: This has a pretty good Christian message. A person with power is tempted to corruption and his ultimate demise. A refusal that leaves the others in the ground, and continues his quest for good. I see a Christian message in that, do you?

Spider-Man is a great movie and if you haven’t seen it get to your nearest movie rental place and demand this movie. its a great family movie that everyone can enjoy. Who he is is great, and who is he? He’s Spider-man.

This week I will be reviewing the movie, Iron-man.  A heroic tale of a man on the road to redemption, with the help of a state of the art armor battle suit.

The movie opens with Tony Stark riding in a convoy of military, being his suave womanizing self, when it is suddenly ambushed, where Stark’s heart is injured by his company’s weapons. Stark is captured by terrorists and forced to make them his latest most deadly missile. Instead of  a missile he does what any logical billionaire genius would do in that situation, builds a indestructible suit of armor to escape.  When he gets back to civilization, he turns from his womanizing ways, and his devil may care attitude  about his weapons and seeks to destroy his weapons that are being used for evil. He updates his armor, learns to use it well, and deals with his weapons, personally.  His partner, Obadiah Stane, doesn’t like Stark’s new peace keeping ways so he builds a suit of his own to try and stop Iron-man, dead. Now Tony Stark must fight Stane, The Iron Monger,  his own weapons all while trying to keep his heart going to stay alive.

Looks like Iron-man is about to have some car trouble

Looks like Iron-man is about to have some car trouble

Sexual content 6/10: Tony Stark is a womanizer for at least part of the movie, so he makes a few innuendo comments. there is also a scene where a woman walks around Tony’s house wearing only a long t-shirt.
Violent Content 8/10: It’s a super hero movie so you have to walk into it expecting a little violence. That being said there are some pretty intense scenes, like a few flashes of the terrorists operating on Tony, or when the terrorist threaten another captive by almost making him eat a hot coal.
Language Content 2/10: I don’t think there was any language, or at least as much as I can remember so it was pretty unnoticeable.
Christian Content 8/10: I feel it had a pretty good Christan message. it chronicled the life of a womanizing, alcoholic, war monger and showed his path of repentance, just like how all of us must repent from our evil ways and turn to a life of attempted righteousness.
Overall, iron-man is a great movie. Robert Downy Jr. does an exquisite job portraying Tony Stark, and the story is top notch. It has laughs, excitement and adventure and I say anyone wanting an excellent  movie, look this one up.

Nightmare Before Christmas is one of the best Christmas/ just anytime  movies and it’s one of my childhood favorite movies.

The movie tells the story of Jack Skellington, the pumpkin king, and leader of Halloweentown.  Halloweentown is in charge of, as its name suggest, Halloween, but after years of scare after scare, jack becomes fed up and wonders if there isn’t something more. Depressed, Jack walks and finds the doors to the other holidays and stumbles into Christmas. instantly inspired by this new world he convinces the citizes of Halloweentown to take over Christmas and give Santa Clause a “break”. throughout the Halloween hijacking jack still feels there is something missing inside of all the toys, and songs and stories he feels there something more. Now Jack must find what he’s looking for, fix his mess and save two holidays before it’s too late.

this is Halloween

Violent Content 2/10: this is a family movie so there isn’t a lot of violence, and the only time it’s seen is during the final fight between Jack and The Boogieman.

Language Content 0/10: there is none

Sexual Content 0/10: See language content

Christian Content 6/10: Jack’s search for something more can be equated, at least in my opinion, with someone’s search for Christ. Even after he finds what he thinks he’s looking for, Christmas, he still thinks there is more to Christmas but can’t figure it out.

It is an incredible movie with great music and I definatly recommend it to any who wants to watch a great film with some pretty substantial christian undertones. now I leave you with the original poem that the movie is based off of:

“Good evening ladies and gentlemen; I will be tonight’s entertainment” and I will be reviewing one of the best comic book movies ever (in my opinion), The Dark Knight.

The Dark Knight Stars Christian Bale as the caped crusader himself, Batman, and he is supported by the Oscar award winning actor Heath Ledger as the Joker. It tells the tale of how Batman is snuffing out organized crime in Gotham City and in the mob’s desperation they hire a madman to try and take down the bat. As the Joker gains strength and power over the city’s crime, the mob loses their control and the Joker goes on a rampage through the city, terrorizing it’s citizens, trying to prove that “insanity is like gravity; all you need is a little push.” Batman must fight the mob, defend the city and, stop the Joker before it’s too late, all the while keeping his moral duty and sanity in tact.

Why so serious?

I will be reviewing this by the last time’s rating system, violence, language, sexual content, and Christian Value and just in case I was clear last time a higher score is bad except on christian value.

Violent Content 9.5/10: The violence in this movie is pretty much everywhere, only because the Joker is a psycho who kills people for reason other then the fact that he enjoys it. there are fight scenes Batman takes part in but some of the stuff the Joker does alone are horrifyingly gruesome. Defiantly shouldn’t play this for your young ones.

Sexual Content 2/10: there really is no sexual anything in this movie except for a few scenes between Harvey Dent and Rachel Dawes where they have some innuendo while talking, and there is a scene with the Joker where he hits on Rachel Dawes but that’s about it.

Language 2/10: There is basically no language besides the occasional swear now and again while there’s an action scene going on but besides that it’s kinda low on the language.

Christian Value 6/10: Besides the fact that the star’s name is Christian, which should give it an automatic ten…feel free to roll your eyes now…it really does have a message of good will always triumph over evil and you don’t have to lower yourself to evil’s level to beat it.

The Dark Knight is one of my favorite movies and if you haven’t seen it; A: where have you been? and B: you should really look it up and watch it. oh and one more thing, you wanna see a magic trick?

Today I will be reviewing the graphic novel: Deadpool: Suicide Kings. ”J-Rod, who is Deadpool?” Well reader, Deadpool, AKA Wade Wilson, is a super mercenary created in a super-soldier program (called Weapon X) who’s power is regeneration and weapons. He’s known as “the merc with the mouth”, ”the degenerate regenerate”, and “the crimson comedian”.  Also he’s certifiably insane, due to all the experiments done on him during the program, and he constantly breaks the fourth wall, references facts about his comic book or the fact that he’s in a comic book, has arguments with the voices in his head, and sometimes he sees epic situations play out in front of him that aren’t real (like seeing the guy he’s about to fight with as a samurai).  Anyway he’s extremely funny but sometimes he may go a bit too far, that’s what I’m here to figure out today.

See what I mean

Suicide Kings opens with Deadpool doing what he does best, killing and talking to himself. After killing everyone in the room he is approached by  someone about hiring him for one hit for a million dollars, but when he gets to the apartment to kill the guy the building explodes.  Deadpool is framed, and now he must go toe to toe with the Punisher and a few other super-powered individuals while he looks for the punk that framed him, because just deserts are a dish best served cold.

To rate this I will put it through 4 categories and let you decide whether or not to read it. The categories are as follows: Violence, Sexual Content, Language, and Christian Value. I will rate them 1 through 10, 10 being ”oh my gosh this is completely out of control” and 1 being “wow that wasn’t bad in the least and they probably could’ve done a little more and been ok”.

Violence 8/10: The violence is pretty bad, but you kind of have to walk into reading about a mercenary with an air of “oh, I bet there’s going to be some violence.” The worst violent thing that happens is the main character gets his head blown clean off his shoulders, but because of his regenerative powers it comes back 5 panels later. Other then that it’s basic super hero action.

Sexual Content 8/10: There are brief scenes of sexual promiscuity, but most are used for comedic purposes. Like when Deadpool think about what he’s going to do with his million the first thing he thinks about is surrounding himself with beautiful women and playing on hippity-hops. The other times are brought on by him going to his friend, in the middle of the night, for help after a run in with the Punisher and she only wears a sports jersey and leopard print underwear. At the end it also implies that she and Deadpool sleep together.

Language 4/10: There is language used but its always blocked out by “####” or “$%#@” so it leaves it to you to fill in the blanks.

Christian Value 1/10: There was none

It’s a good read, just not really Christlike in nature. it doesn’t openly bash God or Christianity but it certainly doesn’t advocate a lot of morals. Pick it up if you want a laugh or a good graphic novel or both.

BioShock, the game that teaches you exactly what you would get if a society was completely free to do whatever they wanted, whenever they wanted. The game begins with a plane crash near an ominous lighthouse where you, the protagonist and sole survivor of the crash, go and find a bathysphere. upon entering the submersible you find yourself in the distopian city of Rapture, a mad man’s dream turned nightmare. Rapture was supposed to be the escape for the scientist, and the artist but due to the lack of ethics and morality the citizens, called splicers due to the overuse of gene-splicing, of Rapture have lost themselves. Their sanity and humanity are distant echos in their tortured spliced bodies. You, Jack the protagonist, must discover the dark inner demons of Rapture’s past all the while trying to defeat a mad man,  Andrew Ryan,  and above all survive.

Even though BioShock is my favorite game EVER, and I would recommend it to anyone in search of a good game,  it maybe far from perfect on a biblical standpoint. It is riddled with horrific scenes of violence, and extremely strong language. There are some sexual themes used in the “Fort Frolic”, the entertainment district of Rapture, level, but it is mild and not delved into thoroughly. There are drug related  themes, in that one of the attacks, the plasmids, are recharged via injecting yourself with a syringe filled with a questionable serum called “Eve”. The horrific sciences of violence come mostly from the splicers attempting to get “Adam”, the substance that allows you to update your plasmids, from the “little sisters”, little girls who have a leech living in them that produces and processes the “Adam”.

All of my reviews are based on Philippians 4:8, and so we shall put BioShock to the test.  Is it true; Yes, it shows what would truly happen to a society if it shirked off all morals, inhibitions, and even God himself, and it didn’t turn out well. Is it noble; yes and no, yes because it is noble in it’s quest to stress the need for morals, and no because it didn’t really display it in a noble fashion but more in a hype-violent, worst case scenario, representation of what would happen. Is it right; yes, see my “is it true” explanation. Is it pure; far from it, but sometimes you have to get a little dirty to reveal the truth. Is it lovely; definitely, the visuals and graphics in the game are simply stunning. Is it admirable; yes, the fact it can teach an ethical lesson while you have unbelievable amounts of fun is quite admirable indeed. Is it excellent or praiseworthy; I should say so, seeing as it scored almost all 10 out of 10’s with pretty much every game reviewer because of its excellence. So out of the 8 qualifications it takes to have us “think about such things” it scores an 6 1/2 out of 8, biblically passable in my book. However, it is not up to me to decide what you consider biblically passable, so would you kindly play BioShock and decide for yourself.

Hey that looks just like the title

What happened in Haiti is unbelievably horrible. Medecine, food, are water starting to run out but the world has come to their aid. I am surprised at how much support that goes out daily, how many fundraisers were made and how many facebook groups were made, to donate a certain amount of money per member,  to help Haiti anyway they can. At the forefront of these relief groups are of course the religious orginizations, however a new much louder movment seeks to get and send more relief to Haiti than religious organization, Atheists.

The Atheist's plan for Haitian relief

According to this site,  Atheists are making there own better groups that “counter the scandalous myth that only religious people care about their fellow man.” “J-Rod, what’s the matter with you? all they want to do is send relief to Haiti, you just hate Atheists and love to nitpick them.”   While it is true I am not a big fan of Atheists and nitpicking them makes me very happy but here the nitpicking has a purpose. I know they want to help and the helping is not what I against, in fact this is one of the few times I actually agree with Richard Dawkins, but what I’m against is them thinking they are proving you don’t need God to do good things.

They are singing the praises of what non-religious people do and how they are just like, if not better, then Christians when it comes to generosity, but they miss the point that to put it simply is , you can’t spell “good” without G O D. From what I can gather about their efforts, their attempts to do good, are unprecedented, except for them saying “look at me, look at me, I don’t believe in God an I still help people”, and seem spiteful in nature. You can’t teach an old dog new tricks and you can’t teach a human to be Godlike. All I can say is at least some good came from this spiteful move against Religion. “Mercy Peace and Love be to yours Abundance” Jude 1:2

Education is the back bone of society. Math is needed to calculate sums, find ways for you to work smarter not harder via equations. History is important for those who do not remember it are doomed to repeat it. Science is understanding the world around you and language to study words and roots of words to better understand what you speak. It is crucial for you to have mastery of all of these skills, but what if our system is a flawed one. according to www.atheist.org we are not reaching the true potential of education which can only come about with the abandonment of God and the acceptance of atheism.

This website claims to have a vision of what education should be and make it sound like life will be perfect if we just follow it.

The world of education according to the atheist vision

I’m not one to shoot anything down without at least looking at it so I’ll take a look at the bullet points of  this vision and see if it’s up to snuff. try an picture an America where:

1.) ”Children are not forced, pressured, or coerced to pray in the public school system in any way.” Wait a minuet they aren’t. Even before this vision they weren’t forced to pray, and any pressure or coercion to pray should have been over come by their “freed minds”.

2.) “Atheist students are able to speak about their thoughts without repercussions of any kind.” Wait, your saying that if an athieist student speaks his thoughts he should not be questioned or punished no matter how offensive his thoughts are? this is starting to sound a little dicey but lets continue.

3.) ”Nonreligious clubs are present wherever they are wanted by even the smallest minority of students, and they enjoy the same rights as other religious and secular clubs.” Well, if a nonreligious club is defined as a club that is does not pertain to a religion then , done! but if you’re saying a nonreligious club is a club that actively works against religion that’s kinda attempting to prohibit the free practice of a religion which is unconstitutional.

4.) “Students are not ashamed or afraid to speak what they think.” not inherently a bad thing but once again we come to the problem of someones feelings are going to get hurt and someone is going to lash back.

5.) “School faculty do not penalize students who disagree with them in any way” WHAT!? seriously, WHAT!? Student not being penalized for disagreeing with their teacher? I believe there’s a word for that: Anarchy.

6.)  “Science classes are restricted to the teaching of current scientific principles, as opposed to any kind of mythology or dogma.” Ah ha, the real issue reveals itself from the smoke and mirrors of the other bullet points. This “Vision” is an attempt to describe a “perfect” educational environment that rivals that of the Greeks and at the end of the day it boils down to a “war” between religion and science.

overall I’d say this “vision” is more like a nightmare.

an advocte of this vision

This article meant well but it just had one little problem, it was humans trying to make something perfect. until we realize that we need God in every aspect of our lives we will be hopelessly lost chasing after goals we can never achieve. “Mercy, Peace and Love be to you in abundance” Jude 1:2

Well, you would pretty much have to be dead not to notice that Christmas time has come around once more, and all of the stress of the holidays bring come with it. The shopping, the wrapping, the family, the seemingly endless amount of Christmas cards coming in and going out; it’s enough to make you want to try out for being Santa’s reindeer by hurling yourself off the roof. Why do we do it? Why do we put up with uneeded amounts of stress for a day that and comes and goes like any other day.

I think he means business

I think he means business

There is no rhyme or reason to this Christmas thing, except for one key factor, Christ. Without Jesus this holiday, this stress, the gifts, they’re ALL MEANINGLESS. Jumping off of Christmas, EVERYTHING IN MEANINGLESS without Jesus. The first verse of the first chapter of my favorite book, Ecclesiastes starts with “meaningless, meaningless, everything is meaningless”. Jesus is not only the reason for the season, He is the reason for ALL SEASONS. I guarantee you, if we put a fraction of the time and energy into worship and praise, the world would be a better place because of it.

“Hold up J-Rod, wasn’t Christmas a pagan holiday at one time?” Well yes it WAS, but I’ll cover that in my next Christmas blog. For now I want you to not only remember Jesus when he IN YOUR FACE, during Christmas, but during the whole year, and that you not only remember His birth but remember His death on the cross for your sins. “Mercy peace and love be to you in abundance” Jude 1:2 MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!

Ask just about any scientist “how did the universe come into existence” and I can almost guarantee you that he will say something along the lines of “a singularity expanded to our known universe.” I can definitely guarantee you that the second you try to tell him about God’s creation of the earth or even intelligent design he will immediately shun you as an idiot not worthy of his time. Why does he do this, and why do most scientists think this way? A short answer to that would be that they think the creationist way of thinking  is all made up and that it leaves to many unanswered questions. well lets take a looky look at their theory shall we and we’ll see the soundness and perfectly answerd perfection of their theory.

This site is where I’m basing all of this so take a look to make sure I’m not making anything up, cause you know you can’t trust a christian with science you might get a little truth mixed in and who wants that?  It starts off by saying that 13.7 billion years ago (cause 14 billion was too well rounded) there was nothing except for one singularity in the vastness of….nothing. A singularity is a zone of space (or in this case lack of space) that defies physics, with its extreme gravity and it’s possibility of squishing matter infinitely tiny. where does a singularity come from, how can it defy the laws of physics and have we proven one exists? Science says: We don’t know, we don’t know and no. So that three unanswered questions in the first half of the theory, I could stop now but where’s the fun in that? The Theory goes on to say that this singularity, DIFYING ITS OWN EXTREME GRAVITY, began to expand and make matter, defying the first law of thermodynamics, and slowly but surely we “evolved” and here we are. (evolution will be covered in a later post)

I’m only going to cover this first part of the article for now, cause this is a lot for me to swallow. People except this as truth, without question, why? because someone with a lab coat says so,and it’s SCIENCE. Science has no need to explain itself, that fact we’re here is a testament to the fact that science was right, right? No, no matter how many unanswered questions science leaves, they are ignored and swept under the rug to seem sound.  I’ll leave you with this, dear reader, please look closely and examine what is told to you, don’t just take it as fact because of the person who tells you. “Mercy Peace and Love be to you in abundance” Jude 1:2
